Day Running Lights have become a compulsory fitment on all new cars and light commercials registered from 7th February 2011 onwards and will apply also to new trucks and buses from August 2012.
This is due to a European Directive (2008/89/EC) to improve road safety for drivers and pedestrians, but there is currently no Europe-wide requirement for drivers of cars without dedicated DRL’s to drive with headlights during the day.
However as a Department of Transport commissioned study confirmed that there would be a net reduction in road accidents from compulsory fitting of DRL’s, what better reason to update the look of your vehicle.
Our DRLs consist of four or five one watt Light Emitting Diodes (LED) bulbs which have a stable colour and light intensity yet consume only a fraction of the power needed for headlamp bulbs – typically 8 or 10 watts instead of 110watts.
These are quality lamps with an aluminium cast body, waterproof to IP44 standards, e marked and conforms fully to the ECE R87 regulations.
